We expect many big (and perhaps provocative) ideas to be shared for germination at Vanderbilt Law School's Summit on Law and Innovation happening April 30, 2018 in Nashville. In the coming days, we'll share some teasers with you—a little bit more about our participating thought and action leaders, as well as a sneak peek into the challenges and opportunities they will seed at #SoLI2018.
First up, Marie Bernard.

What ideas will Marie ignite at SoLI2018?
Designing solutions for the Other Three Billion of the legal profession
The first step is often said to be the most difficult. But as counter-intuitive as it seems, in the case of legal innovation, our profession might well have completed the easiest first: traction on jurisdictions where regulation wasn’t too conservative, investments from large law firms, and service providers targeting a premium market while their critical mass allows for (some) exploration and failed projects. On the other end of the spectrum, many are attempting to leverage legal tech to improve Access to Justice.
What do you do when you’re in the vast middle of the spectrum? Small and medium-size law firms, boutiques, solo practitioners: all acknowledge they need to be in motion. But when innovation has a proportionally larger impact on the bottom line of the business, engaging in legal transformation can seem like crossing the Rubicon!
Can we, as a profession, do more to push transformation in this space between premium legal services and A2J? Marie Bernard, CEO of Nextlaw Labs, shares her thought-provoking observations and suggestions.
